From Couch Trades to Community: The Story Behind TruPlush It all started with a Jellycat.
Before we were co-founders, we were collectors.
And before we were collectors, we were just two people trying to find comfort — in the form of a plush.
It started with a Jellycat Amuseable we both loved. Christina had it. Cindy had been searching for it. We met up in Bellevue, WA to exchange plushies — just two strangers bonding over soft fabric, embroidered smiles, and the quiet joy these little creatures bring.
That one trade turned into many.
And over time, into something much bigger.
Suitcases Full of Plush, and Hearts Full of Meaning
Our collections grew fast — Jellycat Amuseables, Pop Mart figures, seasonal releases, rare finds.
There were weekends when our suitcases were packed not with clothes, but with seagulls, bananas, soda cans, and tiny astronauts.
But these plushies weren’t just collectibles.
They were companions.
They made us laugh. Gave us comfort.
In a chaotic world, they were a soft landing when we needed it most.
And we knew — we weren’t the only ones.
What Happens When One of Us Moves?
When Christina moved to the East Coast, we didn’t stop trading.
We got creative. Boxes crossed the country. Notes were exchanged. We compared tags and shipping times and care instructions.
We started asking:
“What do we really want from a trade?”
“How do we create the same trust we had in person — for everyone?”
“What if exchanging plushies could feel like sharing comfort, not just doing business?”
And that’s how TruPlush was born.
